Terminating your tenancy on the Interent


If you have an Internet bank account, you can terminate your tenancy with VAV with the online termination notice below. You need identify yourself with the username and password for your bank account, after which you can fill in the termination notice. Unfortunately online termination is not possible without an Internet back account, as terminating your tenancy requires for you to identify yourself.

At the moment you can identify yourself with an account for one of these banks: Nordea, OP-Pohjola, and Sampo. We will possibly offer other possibilities for online identification in the future. The termination notice is in Finnish.

Terminating your tenancy with a paper form

If you are not using the Internet termination notice, you can terminate your tenancy by filling in and signing a paper termination form. You can print the form here, and they are also available at the VAV office in Tikkurila. After you have filled the form you need to deliver it to VAV's office. If you do not deliver the termination notice personally, but instead deliver it, for example, by mail, you should call or email VAV's customer service to make sure that VAV has received the notice. You can find the contact information for the customer service here. If you do not deliver the termination notice personally, nor send it via the Internet form above, VAV will mail you a letter to confirm that your tenancy has been terminated.

If your tenancy agreement was signed by two or more persons and you want to terminate it completely, all the signers of the tenancy agreement must also sign the termination notice. If two or more persons are included in the tenancy agreement, and only one of them wants to terminate it on his or her behalf while others will remain as tenants, only this one person needs to sign the termination notice. In that case he or she must cross the box in the termination notice that says "irtisanon vuokrasopimuksen omalta osaltani" ("I will terminate the tenancy on my behalf").

After you've terminated your tenancy, you should the instructions on what to do when your tenancy is ending.

 

 

Notice period

A tenancy agreement in force until further notice can be terminated either on the last day of the following month or on the 15th day of the following month. The notice period is 1 month.

If written notice is sent to VAV by the 15th day of the month at the latest, before the VAV office closes for the day, the tenancy will end on the 15th day of the following month if the tenant so desires. If the 15th day of the month is a weekend or public holiday, notice should be given to VAV on the working day before the 15th day of the month before the VAV office closes.

If written notice is given to the landlord after the 15th day of the month, the tenancy will end on the last day of the following month. If the tenant wants the tenancy to end at the end of the following month, notice should be given to VAV no later than the last day of the month before the VAV office closes. If the last day of the month is a weekend or public holiday, notice may be given to VAV on the working day after the last day of the month before the VAV office closes.

As an exception to the above, tenancies for VAV Asunnot Oy's serviced homes cannot be terminated on the 15th day of the following month. Tenancy agreements for serviced homes always end on the last day of the following month.
